Following the announcement yesterday (18 February) that a project to develop the UK’s first Low Carbon Hydrogen Plant at Essar Oil UK’s Stanlow refinery in Ellesmere Port, has been awarded £7.5m. Councillor Louise Gittins, Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council said: “This is a welcomed announcement bringing much needed investment into Ellesmere Port.

“There is a strong commitment in our borough to take action to address the Climate Emergency and a commitment to become carbon neutral by 2045. We know that given our high industrial emissions to reach this ambitious target will require significant contributions from projects such as this, working towards switching energy intensive industries to alternative fuels such as low carbon hydrogen.

“Ellesmere Port will be helping to lead the country in providing solutions to the Climate Emergency.” Councillor Gittins and Andrew Lewis, Chief Executive, Cheshire West and Chester Council visited Essar Oil Tuesday 18 February.
